This month I’m sharing a song called “Ratsnest of a Heart,” written and recorded back in 1995. For years, this song sat quietly on a shelf but recently the Lord brought it back into my life. Listening closely to the lyrics I began to recognize the "pattern" of the dysfunctional personalities the song speaks about.
When I wrote it (eons ago), I thought it was simple a song about a messed up friendship, but now the Lord is showing me deeper things ... about myself and the relationship patterns I learned from a kid and long into adulthood.
Rastnest of a Heart is describing a narcissist. It speaks into how they operate and the targets that are easily drawn into relationship with them.
Today I am not the same woman that wrote that song. I am a daughter of the Most High King, I can spot narcissistic behavior quickly and am no longer a target for such abuse, and I thank God for that.
Remember this …
The Lord says, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32) and that “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).
If this song stirs something in your heart, I encourage you to sit with the Lord and ask Him His intentions for you in that place.
He is faithful and He loves you.
